Antibiotics Production
Over the last two decades, the production of antibiotics has been simplified via enzyme-based processes in aqueous environments. Membrane filtration technology has played a major role in recovering and purifying the antibiotics from enzyme-based fermentation broth, including lactames, aminoglycosides, polypeptides, tetracyclines, and macrolides. The molecular mass (MW) of antibiotics are in the range of 200-1200 Daltons, therefore, nanofiltration membrane falls in the right MWCO range to concentrate and purify the antibiotics. With the proper selection of a nanofiltration membrane, target antibiotics can be rejected with minimal product loss.
Benefits of membrane process
- Purification of broth to create high-quality antibiotics
- Lower waste disposal and reduced product loss
